Sensible Minnesota is organizing a silent vigil at the Minnesota State Capitol on the afternoon of April 20, 2018. Traditionally, this day is used for activists as an opportunity to “rally for the cause,” but given incidents like Philando Castile’s death and the tens of thousands of patients unable to access medical cannabis in Minnesota, Sensible Minnesota has decided this is our opportunity to show lawmakers, the media, and the public the faces of those harmed by prohibition that fully captures the somber reality set by the failed war on cannabis.
For each victim of prohibition, we will create a poster with their photo, name, and a brief description of how they were harmed by prohibition. Those harmed may include:
• patients who have died or suffered setbacks due to restricted access to medical cannabis;
• individuals who have been killed or harmed by police or others while consuming or obtaining cannabis in the black market;
• individuals who are or were unjustly incarcerated for crimes relating to cannabis prohibition; and
• individuals whose lives have been significantly and negatively impacted by a cannabis-related criminal conviction or charge.
It is our goal to partner with other organizations and individuals fighting for criminal justice reform that support ending cannabis prohibition. This may include charities, advocacy organizations, political parties, clinics, and others. If you or your organization is interested in getting involved, please contact Brandan Borgos at 612-865-7811 or brandan@sensible.mn.
If you know a individual with a story to tell that would like to participate, please have them visit https://sensible.mn/
We will work with them to create a poster and display them at the State Capitol on 4/20 and on social media to raise awareness.
Thank you for your consideration, we look forward to making this a powerful and memorable event.
