Protest & March: Stop Separating Families
Sunday, June 30
2:00 p.m.
Gather at Lake & Nicollet

March and rally to demand justice for separated families! Snacks and refreshments will be served at the end as we listen to speakers from the community.

One year ago thousands marched in Minneapolis to protest the separation of families at the border.

Today, hundreds of children are still known to be separated from their parents at the border. ICE continues to tear grandparents, aunts, uncles, and adult siblings from the children in their care. But family separations extend beyond the border.

Also a year ago on June 26, 2018 the U.S. Supreme Court issued a 5 to 4 decision in the case of Hawaii v. Trump, allowing the Muslim Ban to remain permanently in place. This ban indefinitely blocks individuals from the Muslim-majority countries of Iran, Libya, Somalia, Syria, and Yemen (as well as people from North Korea and certain government officials from Venezuela) from coming to the U.S. on immigrant or nonimmigrant visas. This protest serves as a reminder that the Muslim Ban continues to separate families, leaving U.S. citizens unable to see their children, spouses, or parents and preventing many people from seeking or continuing career and educational opportunities or life-saving care in the U.S. because of this racist ban

On the one year anniversary of the Families Belong Together marches, we are demanding an end to family separations at the border and in Minnesota:

* Stop separating families through deportations
* Stop separating families through the Muslim Ban
* Stop separating families through mass incarceration
* Stop separating families through a racist child welfare system that punishes black, brown, and indigenous communities
* Reparations for the separation of indigenous families through boarding schools and foster care
