Summary: To amend the Public Health Service Act to protect the confidentiality of substance use disorder patient records. Cosponsors (Bipartisan)

ANGIE CRAIG’S POSITION:  Representative Craig cosponsored the bill on 9/11/19.

STATUS: Introduced 4/03/19 by Rep. Blumenauer, Earl [D-OR-3].

INFORMATION RELATED TO THE BILL:

  • “It is a disgrace that doctors are treating patients, in the midst of the opioid crisis, without being able to obtain and understand their full medical history” said Congressman Blumenauer. “If substance use disorder treatment is not included in your entire medical records, then they are not complete. It makes care coordination more difficult and can lead to devastating outcomes. This bill works to remove the stigma that comes with substance use disorders and ensures necessary information is available for safe, efficient, and transparent treatment for all patients.” (Source: Re.
