H. R. 2411, Tobacco to 21 Act.

Summary: To prohibit the sale of tobacco products to individuals under the age of 21. Cosponsors

ANGIE CRAIG’S POSITION:  Representative Craig cosponsored the bill on 6/13/19.

STATUS: Introduced 4/30/19 by Rep. DeGette, Diana [D-CO-1].

  • “Unlike other bills drafted by the industry, our bill has no special-interest carve-outs or limitations on state and local governments,” DeGette said. “Unlike other bills, our bill was drafted with one simple goal in mind, and that’s to protect public health by keeping tobacco products out of the hands of young people.” The Tobacco to 21 Act would raise the minimum age to purchase tobacco products from 18 to 21 and would include cigarettes, cigars and e-cigarettes. The measure would also require retailers to check the photo IDs of anyone 30 or younger. (Source: CSP Daily News, Angel Abcede, 5/03/19)
