Hate Can’t Win When People Are United- Voices and Action after New Zealand Terror Attack

No Images found.

Fifty innocent people were gunned down in New Zealand on March 15th, as they were observing their holy day at local mosques, by a white nationalist terrorist.  Their names have not been made public but we hold each of them and their families and loved ones in our hearts. This is far from the first time we have seen hatred turned violent, as people come together in prayer. This is but the latest instance, targeted at the Muslim community, as Islamaphobia worldwide places all of our Muslim brothers and sisters at risk.

Here are members of the Muslim community, faith leaders and elected officials responding to this heinous slaughter.

As we heard from many speakers, our responsibilities lie in calling out this hate for what it is.  We must speak out against all hate filled language.  We must stand with community members who are being targeted right now, especially Muslim women who wear the hijab. We must understand the threat this poses not only to Muslims, but many vulnerable communities that white supremacists target. We must never back down in expressing our shared humanity. An attack on one, is an attack on us all, as we stand together in love and peace.

Want to help the victim’s families?

Minnesotan Muslim leaders are asking for people to donate to the United for Christchurch fundraising effort below. Monies raised will be distributed to the families by the New Zealand Islamic Information Centre – NZIIC (https://www.nziic.org/).
