Honoring Veterans and Their Families

On Veterans Day and every day we honor those who serve our country and their families who make sacrifices so that they can serve.  For many years Minnesota has honored veterans at a ceremony in Inver Grove Heights, where veterans and their friends and families come together to have breakfast, hear a magnificent military band and hear from organizations that support veterans statewide, as well as state and federal officials.  It is a time to think about all of the ways veterans and their families need our support, both while they are on active duty, and when they return to Minnesota to work and live after discharge. Whether it’s about housing for homeless vets, getting great jobs, healthcare concerns, or suicide prevention- there are a lot of ways elected officials as well as community members can provide real access to needed services. Vets and families were encouraged to reach out to the MN Bureau of Veterans Affairs, as well as their representatives offices to access help!

Speakers included CD2’s own Congresswoman Angie Craig, as well as Lt. Governor Flanagan, Governor Walz, Senator Smith, Congresswoman McCullom and Congressman Phillips.  The first main speaker was from the Minnesota Department of Veterans Affairs and he spoke of ways they are there to support veterans and their families and the importance of asking for help.
