U.S. Senator Amy Klobuchar opens her 2020 presidential campaign headquarters on May 23, 2019 in Minneapolis.
The senator was late to her own party … a vote on disaster relief (passed) delayed her departure from Washington, DC. She recorded a phone video before boarding her plane that played on a large screen to the overflow crowd around 7:30 pm — those who waited her plane to arrive at MSP were able to hear her speak as shown in the video below.
The occasion was festive. The headquarters are spacious and inviting in an old brick building. There were “Amy” cookies, small cupcakes, an Amy for America green punch and other beverages. A snow cone machine harkened back to her launch announcement. There were Amy bean bag tosses (with Minnesota Vikings and Green Bay Packers catchers), an Amy trivia game with miniature rubber duckies floating in a bowl, a straw bowl on the design for an Amy swag bag and much more.
Several speakers, including campaign manager Justin Buoen, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, State Auditor Julie Blaha and Klobuchar’s husband, John Bessler.
