Ruth Richardson wins 52B endorsement for House

The last DFL state legislative endorsement battle in CD2 is set for this coming Saturday* — the showdown between Hunter Cantrell and Renita Fisher in District 56A. So we thought we’d take a look back at some photos from a similar endorsement contest a few weeks ago.

Ruth Richardson, a new political activist who entered the race the week of precinct caucuses, took on a hardworking and qualified candidate, Geoff Dittberner, for the endorsement in 52B on the northern side of CD2.

This has been a year for women. Two of the three remaining DFL candidates for governor are women. We have two women running for election to the U.S. Senate. For the congressional seat in CD2, most watchers expect Angie Craig to get the nod for a second run.

And in CD2 thus far, ten female candidates have been endorsed for the Minnesota State House of Representatives and only three males.

Richardson goes next against Republican freshman Regina Barr, who won by a scant 121 votes against her last DFL opponent in a very strong Republican year. Dittberner has shown great resilience, bouncing back quickly to run for a city council seat in Inver Grove Heights.

*SD20 doesn’t endorse its candidates until May, but so far there are no contests.
